Singapore Adds Indonesia As New Source For Chicken Imports

By Massita Ahmad SINGAPORE, July 1 (Bernama) -- Indonesia has been approved as a new source to export frozen, chilled, and heat-processed chicken meat and chicken meat products to Singapore, Singapore Food Agency (SFA) announced Thursday. In its latest Facebook update, SFA said chickens from approved Indonesian establishments can now be imported. Singapore's existing sources include Brazil, Thailand and Australia. “Having a new source for imports of frozen, chilled, heat-processed chicken meat and chicken meat products is another step forward in SFA’s efforts towards diversifying food supply sources and enhancing the resilience of Singapore’s food supplies. “This will better safeguard us against global supply uncertainties,” it said. SFA noted that diversification has been a cornerstone of Singapore’s food security strategy. “The government has been undertaking long-term planning and proactively taking action to safeguard Singapore’s food supply,” it added. Over the years, SFA said Singapore has been diversifying its food sources, especially for commonly consumed food items like eggs, chicken and vegetables. -- BERNAMA
