Singapore MFA: No Reports Of Singaporeans On Flight MU5735 So Far

SINGAPORE, March 22 (Bernama) -- There have been no reports of Singaporeans on board the China Eastern Airlines flight MU 5735 which crashed in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China on Monday (March 21), so far, said the republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
“We are monitoring the situation closely, and are in contact with the Chinese authorities. As MU 5735 had taken off from Kunming and was headed for Guangzhou, we have also reached out to Singaporeans in Yunnan and Guangzhou who have e-registered with MFA,” said the ministry’s spokesperson in a statement today.
The plane carried 132 people, consisting of 123 passengers and nine crew members.
“We understand that search and rescue operations are ongoing. We offer our support to the Chinese government in their efforts, and express our condolences to the families of the passengers and crew on board the flight,” said the spokesperson.
The China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737 aircraft crashed into a mountainous area near the Molang village in Tengxian County in the city of Wuzhou at 2.38 pm., causing a fire in the mountainous area.
The spokesperson noted that Singapore Government is saddened to learn of the crash.
