Six Iranian artworks sold at Dubai Christie’s first night

TEHRAN,April 19(MNA) – The first part of Christie’s April sales of Modern and Contemporary Arab, Iranian and Turkish Art in Dubai concluded selling six Iranian artworks out of nine entries. “Golden Allah” by Farhad Moshiri was sold for $98,000, while “Hurricane” by Afshin Pirhashemi grabbed $86,000 and “Wave” by Nasrollah Afjei went for $74,000, as was reported in a press release on Wednesday. The first night totaled $4,016,300. This was above the high estimate of $3.9 million. The highlight was Mahmoud Said’s “Marsa Matrouh” which sold for $602,500, double its estimate. This is while two small statues; “The Poet’s Family” and “The Wall”, by world famous sculptor Parviz Tanavoli were sold on the first night. Reza Derakhshani also stood in eighth place with his work selling for $116. The last lot in the sale was a work created before an audience by the Tunisian artist Nja Mahdaoui and four young Emiratis. It sold for $50,000 to benefit the Noor Dubai Foundation, an international charitable NGO active in the field of blindness prevention. Untitled works by renowned artists Sedaqat Jabbari, Ali Shirazi, Salar Ahmadian and Masumeh Mozaffari and several other works were the displayed works on the second night on Wednesday. The sale was sponsored by Zurich, who recently signed a three-year contract to be the sole sponsor of the bi-annual Christie’s Dubai sales, and was held at the Emirates Towers Hotel in Dubai.
