Six terror suspects sentenced to life in prison

Manama. Nov. 23 (BNA): Chief Prosecutor Hamad Shaheen said the High Criminal Court sentenced today six suspects to life in jail after finding them guilty of possessing explosive devices, causing an explosion and attempting to murder police officers in Maameer. The convicts planned on May 30, 2015 to place a homemade bomb near the entry of the village and lure the police officers to the scene with the intention of killing them, putting people's lives at risk, scaring them, undermining Bahrain's security and stability and stalling private and public interests. When police officers approached the location of the device, they became suspicious and notified the specialised authorities. A group of experts managed to defuse the bomb. The Public Prosecution relied in its investigation on testimonies from the prosecution witnesses as well as technical evidence. It referred all the suspects, including four in custody, to the High Criminal Court for trial and ordered the arrest of the two fugitives. The court issued the verdict after hearing the case in the presence of the defendants' lawyers who were provided with all legal guarantees.
