Smog blankets capital

BANGKOK, Feb 8 (TNA) – Dust particles in Bangkok rises over the safety limit but remain unharmed for healthy people while those with heart and respiratory diseases are advised to stay indoors. The Department of Pollution Control says the dust particle level in Bangkok was measures at 69-94 micrograms per cubic meters of air, higher than the safe standard at 50 micrograms. Five air quality stations in the capital reports rising dust particles. Meanwhile, the Meteorological department says the weather is cold with fog in the morning and moist with 88 percent of humidity. This weather condition can contribute to accumulated particles in the air. Director of the Institute for Urban Disease Control and Prevention Rungrueng Kitpati said that the institute has monitored dust particles and smog since late January to February. The situation has improved. Smog this morning is seen in some areas and is not hazardous for healthy people. However, those with heart and respiratory diseases are advised to stay indoors and avoid outdoor activities. (TNA)
