Smuggled Porsche seized from six-wheeled truck

TAK, Sept 12 (TNA) -- Authorities arrested a truck driver and seized a Porsche worth millions of baht hidden in the enclosed cargo area of the truck in Mae Sot district of Tak province at 12.30am on Wednesday. The arrest took place at a checkpoint on Mae Sot-Tak Road in Huai Hin Fon village. Authorities including soldiers, police, local administrators and customs officials, in joint operation, stopped the white truck registered in Tak as it approached the checkpoint at a high speed. Its driver Sakda Sareemook, 44, looked worried so authorities searched the truck. Its enclosed cargo area was stuffed with tires and sacks of cloth scraps. After the tires and the sacks were removed, officials found the new Porsche. The car bears fake license plates. Mr Sakda said that he was hired for 8,000 baht to drive the truck from a border area in Mae Sot district to the center of Tak province and he did not know that the car had fake license plates. Authorities believed he was part of a gang smuggling luxury cars. (TNA)
