Southern provinces affected by forest fires from Indonesia

SONGKHLA, Oct 4 (TNA) - Visibility in several Thailand’s southern provinces is poor early Sunday as haze from forest fires in Indonesia is still covering the region while environment officials there are on full alert round-the-clock. Officials of the Environment office in Songkhla said visibility in this resort province is poor for the second consecutive day Sunday, especially Hat Yai district.The weather in several southern provinces was quite warm and visibility lowered to about 500 metres. People, having health problems, could feel the effect of thick smog. Officials said in Hat Yai, considered as shopping paradise for tourists, the air quality was measured at 108 microgrammes per cubic metre early Sunday while it was 70 and 65 microgrammes per cubic metre in Yala and Narathiwat respectively. Although the air quality did not exceed the standard 120 microgrammes per cubic metre in the South so far, persons with health problems are advised to stay indoor and to wear masks if they have to undertake outdoor exercises.
