Southern Thailand Police Seized RM2.5 Mln Amphetamine Pills, Ganja

By TUWAEDANIYA MERINGGING NARATHIWAT, June 17 (Bernama) -- Southern Thailand authorities detained two men in Takbai and Surat Thani and confiscated 402,000 amphetamine pills and 960 kilogrammes of ganja (marijuana) meant to be smuggled to Malaysia. Southern Border Region police chief Maj Gen Pattanawut Angkanawin said the first suspect was detained two days ago following the discovery of 402,000 amphetamine pills in a lorry at the inspection centre in Takbai at 11.30pm local time. “The suspect said the pills belonged to the second suspect and should have been brought to Sungai Golok. Police estimated the pills were worth about RM2.5 million (about US$584,300)," he told a media conference which was also attended by Narathiwat Governor Sittichai Sakda, Friday. Police said Pattanawut also found 960 kg of ganja after searching the house of the second suspect in Surat Thani Thursday. -- BERNAMA
