Speaker hails Bahraini women’s strides

Manama, Nov.14(BNA): Council of Representatives Speaker Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al-Mulla hailed Bahraini women’s landmark strides. He paid tribute to Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and Supreme Council for Women (SCW) President, hailing her support to Bahraini women in all fields. He commended women’s achievemnets in the parliamentary and municipal fields, in lined with the reform project which was initiated by HM the King. He highlighted the SCW-led efforts, led by HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, which bolstered Bahraini women’s standing as part of the national fabric. The Speaker underscored the crucial importance of the international conference on women’s political participation towards achieving development justice under the slogan “Practical Experiences and Future Aspirations”. He hailed the Prince Sabeeka Global Award for Women Empowerment, which embodies Bahrain’s message to the international community and reflects commitment to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals -2030. The Speaker stressed the importance of for the upcoming elections which, he said, represent a new defining phase in Bahrain’s political history. He hailed the growing participation of women as candidates running in the parliamentary and municipal elections, which reflecting their determination to exercise their constitutionally-guaranteed political rights. “The number of women candidates rose from 8 in 2002 to 44 in the forthcoming 2018 elections”, he said, expressing the hope that Bahraini women would have a strong presence in in the coming legislative term.
