Speaker highlights Bahrain's firm supportive stances towards Palestinian people's legitimate rights

Manama, May 12 (BNA): Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal, has stressed that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, has been, and will remain supportive of the brotherly Palestinian people in order to regain their legitimate rights and set up their independent state, in accordance with the two-state solution, and based on the Arab Peace Initiative and the relevant international legitimacy resolutions. She expressed categorical rejection and denunciation of the attacks on worshippers at the Al-Aqsa mosque and provocations against the people of Jerusalem through the eviction and seizure of their homes in an attempt to change the city’s historical identity. The speaker stressed that such condemned practices represent one of the worst forms of attacks on human rights, put the global conscience on the line, and make it necessary for the International Community to adhere to its duties emanating from all divine religions, international charters and treaties, and human rights principles, and stop such clear violations of international legitimacy resolutions that put regional peace and stability at risk. The speaker made the statements while addressing the 31st emergency conference of the Arab Inter-parliamentary Union (AIPU), held virtually today under the chairmanship of AIPU President and UAE Federal National Council Speaker, Saqr Ghobash. Speakers of Arab countries’ legislative councils and parliaments, in addition to the Arab League Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, took part in the virtual emergency AIPU session devoted to discussing the situation at the Aqsa Mosque and the attacks against the brotherly Palestinians. She emphasised that the Israeli authorities’ practices against the Palestinians are unacceptable and require taking a unified Arab parliamentary stance that supports the Palestinian cause and confirms the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people. She stressed that the current situation requires more serious action by Arab parliaments and governments to urge the International Community to assume their responsibilities and put an end to provocations and attacks against the Palestinians, protect lives and property and put an end to the eviction of the Jerusalem people’s houses and desecration of holy sites, noting that that such practices lead to dangerous outcomes that may undermine the possibilities to revive the peace process to achieve regional security and stability. She affirmed that what is going on at the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood confirms the need to agree on an effective vision and a firm stance that meets the aspirations of the Arab citizens. She indicated that the stability of the humanitarian, legal and security situation in Jerusalem and all Palestinian neighbourhoods and villages will lead to regional security, help to reach the necessary solutions to the Palestinian cause and support efforts aimed at reaching comprehensive just peace. “It is our duty to defend the rights of the brotherly Palestinian people. In this way, we defend ourselves, our citizens, our future generations and the first Arab and Islamic cause,” she said. The emergency session issued a communiqué in which it condemned and denounced the Israeli practices against the Islamic and Christian holy sites and the Palestinian people.
