Speaker receives UK ambassador

Manama, Dec. 23 (BNA): Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal, has lauded the depth of the strategic relations between Bahrain and the United Kingdom, which span over 200 years. She praised the high-level support accorded to bilateral relations by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. While meeting the UK Ambassador to Bahrain, Simon Martin, the speaker highlighted the Representatives Council’s keenness to enhance parliamentary relations with the British House of Commons. This can be done through activating the friendship committees between the two councils, and the exchange of visits between MPs and the Secretariat-General’s officials to take advantage of the UK’s expertise in this regard, highlighting the existing cooperation between the Secretariat-General and the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), she said. In another context, the speaker stressed that the Council of Representatives will support the economic and investment cooperation between the two kingdoms. Ambassador Simon Martin lauded the progress boom currently witnessed by the kingdom, expressing his keenness to bolster cooperation between the two friendly countries in various fields.
