Special Task Force To Address Foreigners' Issues In Malaysia's Federal Capital

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Malaysian Immigration Department have set up a special task force on Thursday to address issues of foreigners in the federal capital. Kuala Lumpur Mayor Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz, in a statement, on Thursday said the joint task force would focus on various issues relating to foreign nationals such as permits and peddling of goods. "The task force will approach the issues based on three elements such as prevention, education and enforcement. "It will assess and improve any weakness found in the existing practice, standard of procedure and enforcements," he said. Mhd Amin Nordin said after the prevention and education elements are implemented, enforcement would then be taken against the parties that failed to comply with laws and regulations relating to foreigners. He said the decision to set up the team was agreed upon in a meeting between himself and the Immigration Department director-general Mustafar Ali on Thursday. He said the task force will also hold sessions to disseminate the information to relevant parties such as associations and non-governmental organisations on procedures and regulations regarding employment of foreigners. "Cooperation between DBKL and the Immigration Department have already been established for some time in our regular operations conducted around the city. "This special task force will strengthen our cooperation to address the issue of foreigners in the capital city," he said. --BERNAMA
