Special warfare soldiers deployed to find more openings of Chiang Rai’s cave

CHIANG RAI, June 27 (TNA) – Army chief Chalermchai Sitthisad has deployed a company of special warfare soldiers in the northern province to help find more openings of Tham Luang Khun Nam Nang Non cave where 13 people, mostly boys, have been missing since Saturday. Gen Chalermchai said the “Red Beret” special warfare company raised the number of soldiers deployed for the search and rescue mission at the cave to 800. The company would help find more openings above the cave in Mae Sai district so that rescuers could save the young footballers and their coach, he said. According to the army chief, apart from the special warfare company, other soldiers are supporting naval divers who are trying to reach the missing people from the cave’s main entrance. Twenty search teams were deployed and they included infantry soldiers and border patrol police. “I believe the 13 missing people will be found because all parties are trying their best. But I admit that high water levels in the cave are a major obstacle. Pumps have been installed,” Gen Chalermchai told reporters before meeting officials at the main entrance of the cave. (TNA)
