State support of Kazakh periodicals

Almaty, June 01, 2009 (Khabar) - The Minister for Culture and Information has met with the staff of such enterprises as “Zhas Orken” and “Kazakh Gazetteri”. They involve 10 most famous publications. For example, the “Kazakh Gazetteri” LLP includes such newspapers as “Ana tili”, “Uigur avazi” and “Mysl”, “Akikat” and “Urker” magazines. In the near future it is planned to establish staff reporter departments in all regions of Kazakhstan. The problem lies in the fact that since all periodicals is published in Almaty, it is very difficult to spread it around the country. To tackle it, the head of the “Kazakh Gazetteri” suggested publishing both newspapers and magazines in every region of Kazakhstan. The minister for culture and information promised to help with financing.

Zhumabek Kenzhalin, head general of “Kazakh gazetteri” LLP:
- Newspapers and magazines are the mental food for all people of the country and our minister pays a lot of attention to this issue. We are looking for his help.

The main problem of the “Zhas Orken” LLP, which involves “Ulan”and“ Druzhanyye rebyata” newspapers and “Ak zhelken” and “Baldyrgan” magazines, is poor equipment of the editorial departments. Just a few months ago, journalists had to use printing machines. In order to improve the situation, the ministry allocated 53 million tenge for the equipment.

Mukhtar Kul-Mukhammed, Minister for Culture and Information of RK:
- This financing resulted in the increase of the “Baldyrgan” magazine circulation from 3370 copies to 37700. We were reading this magazine when we were young and know we should familiarize our children with it.

And “Druzhnye Rebyata” children’s newspaper celebrates 75th anniversary this year. Employees of the newspaper feel sad because modern children read little and suggest to organize subscription at schools with minimal payment, only 1000 tenge.
