"Stop to road accidents!"

Petropavlovsk, 18 November 2008, (Khabar) - The traffic policemen of
Petropavlovsk went out the streets with such a motto. The campaign is
dedicated to the World Day of victims of road accidents.

According to UN, 200 000 people die every year in road accidents, about 50 million are injured. That's why three years ago UN initiated to hold public campaigns on every third Sunday of November. 30 000 people died on roads during 10 years.
This year 65 people died and 371 were injured in Northern Kazakhstan. the
campaign of commemorating of victims was begun with blood passing by traffic
policemen. And the policemen delivered booklets about rules of traffic to
people. And echo of automobile klaxon was heard in the evening in the city.

Yerlan Akylbekov, head of traffic police in North Kazakhstani region:
- If every driver follows the traffic rules, such consequences can be
avoided. This campaign draws attention of society to the problems of traffic
safety and commemorates the dead victims of road accidents.
