Subeih: Qatar Harnesses All Its Potentials to Ensure Success of International Conf.in Defence of Al Quds

Doha ,February 23 (QNA)- Ambassador Mohamed Subeih, the ARAB LEAGUE Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and the Occupied Arab Territories' Affairs, has underlined that the state of Qatar harnessed all its capabilities in order to ensure the success of the international conference for the defense of Al Quds /Jerusalem/ which is due to kick off in Doha next Sunday. Ambassador Subeih, said in an exclusive interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA) upon his arrival in Doha on Thursday at the head of a high-profile delegation of the Arab League General Secretariat to prepare for the aforesaid conference, that the convening of such a conference in Doha is itself a sufficient guarantee of its success in view of the due keenness of the Qatari leadership which is always committed to meet its obligations towards the issues of the Arab nation. The Arab League Assistant Secretary General also stressed that the Palestinian issue and the issue of al Quds in particular come in the forefront of the Qatari policy priorities. ''Preparation for such a conference have started a long time before and communications were ongoing between the Arab League General Secretariat Headquarters and Qatar for coordination and consultation in every aspects to ensure the tangible success of the conference to contribute to providing the real support of the city of Al Quds'', the Arab League senior official said adding, ‘This is always our pledge on part of the State of Qatar and its policy''. The Arab League Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and the Occupied Arab Territories, told QNA that the large crowd participating in the conference, only demonstrates the interest of all people in the issue of al Quds out of their firm belief in the gravity of the violations and acts of forging and counterfeiting constantly perpetrated at the hands of the Israeli occupation. Subeih further said that Qatar's invitations conveyed to more than 350 from more than 60 world countries, clearly reflects its due keenness to discuss all matters relating to the issue of Al Quds so that we all perform our duties towards the issue of al Quds which is prime concern to every Palestinian, Arab and Muslim. In his exclusive interview with QNA, Ambassador Mohamed Subeih, the Arab League Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and the Occupied Arab Territories' Affairs, invitations were also addressed on part of Qatar to prominent religious scholars representing the three heavenly religions in addition to a number of Arab foreign ministers , Islamic waqfs (endowments) MINISTERS, academics, politicians and ambassadors. ''Such a mass participation in the conference have clear-cut indications that reflect the due commitment and adherence of the Palestinian people and the Arab nation alike of the issue of Al Quds as the capital of the state of Palestine'', Subeih told QNA. Replying a question, Ambassador subeih said the plenary session of the conference would be addressed by Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas , the Arab league secretary general dr. Nabil al arabi , the secretary general of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu , the United Nations Coordinator for the peace process in the Middle East Robert Serry, on behalf of the UN Secretary-General together with other prominent speakers. The conference will feature issues of al Quds and international law, history of al Quds, al Quds and the Israeli settlements policies and illegal violations, Jerusalem, and civil society organizations. The first axis deals with the legal status of Jerusalem before and after the Israeli occupation, the reality and the future of Jerusalem under occupation, and the status of the holy places under international law. The importance of highlighting the legal status of al Quds comes to prove the illegality of the Israeli practices and violations in the holy city, and its violation of all related international norms and conventions which therefore do not result in legal effect, does not create the policy of fait accompli, pursuant to the provisions of international law and the Geneva Convention of 1949 and the Hague Convention of 1907. This requires a detailed explanation of the related international legitimacy resolutions, and to highlight the most important decisions of various bodies including the UN Security Council, the UN General Assembly, and UNESCO concerning the City of al Quds in particular, and how to activate them. There are other dimensions regarding the political and economic development to enhance the Arab presence in Jerusalem, where adherence to international law alone is not enough. The second axis will highlight the most important aspects of the Jerusalem issue , including historic dimension which returns to the pre-period of the Romanian era, as well as its position in the three monotheistic religions, and the Arab identity of the holy city, despite the counterfeiting archaeological counterfeiting meant to prove the Israeli weak narrative regarding the historic right of Jews in Jerusalem, which requires to be addressed by highlighting what Jerusalem represents in Islamic and Christian thoughts . The third one deals with procedures for the systematic intensification of settlement and land confiscation in East Jerusalem and the surrounding areas, as well as the demographic changes from 1967 to 2020, by which Israel aims to establish the Greater Jerusalem by expulsion and the displacement of the Arab population from East Jerusalem. The conference will tackle ways to rescue Al Quds, the Arab vision against the Israeli plan - for the future of Al Quds in 2020, which will depend on the development plans for various sectors to strengthen the steadfastness of Jerusalemites, and to emphasize the central role of Jerusalem in the Palestinian political, economic, and cultural life besides protecting the religious, cultural and architectural characteristics. The fourth axis will discuss the role of institutions in the holy city and the extent of its representation to the National Authority, and to find appropriate mechanisms to activate the contribution of civil society organizations in maintaining the Arab identity in the city to strengthen the resistance against the Israeli occupation, and to assist in implementing development projects in Jerusalem. Subeih further said that the city of al Quds is currently living dark days because of the policy of Judaization and the continuous Israeli violations and crimes against the rights of Palestinians, their land, sanctities and rights through the Israeli settlement expansion policies, land confiscation, falsification of facts, the excavations underway under Al-Aqsa Mosque, the expulsion of Jerusalemites, in order to isolate the city from its Palestinian environment. He stressed that the aggressive Israeli policies are defying the international community and flagrantly violating the international agreements , conventions and the UN relevant resolutions .The Middle East cannot enjoy peace, security and stability without the establishment of the independent State of Palestine and al Quds as its capital, he concluded.(QNA)
