Success Of Malaysia's NBOS Gains Attention Of ASEAN Nations

By Azeman Ariffin JAKARTA, July 26 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's successful implementation of the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) in the government's administrative and management system has gained the attention of education ministries in the ASEAN region. In fact, Malaysia's success in implementing the NBOS was also mentioned at the 49th Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organizations (SEAMEO) Council Conference that took place here Tuesday. Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid said several SEAMEO member states have also implemented the same ideas and strategies as in Malaysia’s NBOS in strengthening education in their respective countries. "The implementation of NBOS in national education has fostered greater collaboration as well as coordination between government agencies and increased the participation of various stakeholders, including the private sector and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and local communities. "For example, the issue of lack of students in a school will be monitored by all parties, including the local community leaders to identify the cause of the problem and methods to overcome them," he said when met at the conference here. The implementation of NBOS in government services and management was mooted by Prime Minister Najib Razak since 2009 and is a strategy based on the principles of high impact at a low cost. Mahdzir, who heads the Malaysian delegation to SEAMEC (South-East Asian Ministers of Education Council) Conference, said the conference was more focused on lifelong learning opportunities as well as empowering technical and vocational education in preparation for the world's fourth industrial revolution. At the conference, Mahdzir was appointed deputy president of SEAMEO and deputy chairman of the SEAMEO Council Conference for the period July 2017-July 2019. Indonesian Education Minister Prof Dr Muhadjir Effendy was appointed president of the Council for the same period. -- BERNAMA
