Sumatran Tiger Caught In Boar Trap Rescued In Indonesia's Aceh

JAKARTA, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- Indonesia’s Aceh Natural Resources Conservation Agency has rescued a Sumatran tiger, the most critically endangered tiger subspecies, from a boar trap. The agency removed the 47 kg female tiger from the deadly snare set by villagers in the northern part of the Southeast Aceh jungle on the island of Sumatra. The agency received a call from Gayo Lues Police Station at 6.20 pm on Aug 11 about the situation and a team rushed to the scene, where they found the tiger with its left hind leg entangled. A rescue operation was conducted to free the five-year-old tiger by sedating the protected animal, agency head Agus Arianto said in a statement. The wounded tiger was taken to the Kutacane National Park Management in Southeast Aceh for intensive treatment before being released back into its habitat. Agus appealed to the people to preserve nature, especially the Sumatran tiger, and expressed gratitude for the support of the Sangir villagers in Dabun Gelang, in helping in the evacuation process. -- BERNAMA
