Super Blue Blood moon can be viewed across Thailand

BANGKOK, Jan 31 (TNA) – The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) invites Thai people to view the total lunar eclipse with naked eyes this evening. NARIT director, Saran Poshyachinda said the celestial event is the first total lunar eclipse of this year. It can also be seen in North America, Australia, Asia and parts of Europe, Africa and South America. In Thailand, it is visible throughout the country from 6.30 pm. The total lunar eclipse will start from 19.51 pm and last about one hour. The Jan 31 full moon is special as it is Super Blue Blood Moon. The moon is closer to Earth in its orbit and brighter than usual, known as supermoon. It’s alsoa second full moon in a calendar month, commonly known as a “blue moon.” While the moon is in the earth’s shadow it appears on a reddish tone, called a “blood moon.” The NARIT invites moongazers to view the total eclipse through various kinds of telescopes at four observation points at two observatories in Nakhon Ratchasima, Chachoengsao, a plaza at Central Festival in Chaing Mai and Samila beach in Songkhla and its network of 260 schools. The institute will broadcast live the phenomenon from varying vantage points of telescopes on its Facebook fanpage from 6.30 pm -10.00 pm. - (TNA)
