Supreme Court reports on work done in 2009

Astana, January 16, 2010 (Khabar) - Kazakhstan’s Supreme Court has summarised the results of its activity done last year. In 2009, the Republic’s courts received around 907 thousand criminal, civic and administrative cases and reports. The number of cases connected with transport and road management violations saw a 50% decrease.

Musabek Alimbekov, chairman, Kazakhstan Supreme Court:
- The criminal and administrative case statistics have improved by 0.1%. We can say we have reached some positive results in terms of jurisdiction. It doesn’t mean we have eased the requirements for courts because year by year, we toughen the requirements to the content of our work as well as objectivity and fairness.

Further optimization of legal procedures, the reduction of supervisory bodies and the widening of the role of district courts are all the tasks set by the Supreme Court for court officials for this year.

Musabek Alimbekov, chairman, Kazakhstan Supreme Court:
- Specialised courts considering severe criminal cases and involving a jury have been in operation in our country since January 1, 2010. Now, we need to establish juvenile courts just like we did in the cities of Almaty and Astana. Such issues will be solved without additional financing as we can do it using our own resources. We have the task of forming an economic court in Astana which is to deal with tax cases and those concerning financial instruments.
