Surat Thani's cooperative office to give 9,999 bananas to BFD cyclists
SURAT THANI, Dec 8 (TNA) -- Thai southern Surat Thai Provincial Cooperative Office is preparing to give out 9,999 Gros Michel bananas to the Bike For Dad (BFD) cyclists on the day of the event or December 11, while Ang Thong province is also planning to give support to the cycling competition by providing tens of thousands of bottled drinking water.
Head of Surat Thai Provincial Cooperative Office, Nantawat Kaeoamdee presided over the ceremony to receive 9,999 Gros Michel bananas from a caravan of local cooperatives in the province at the Baan Na Sarn Agricultural Coop in Na Sarn district.
Mr Nantawat said the bananas would be given to the cyclists who would be participating in the upcoming BFD 2015 event on December 11.
He noted that a total of 7,021 persons in the province have officially registered for the cycling extravaganza, though no less than 10,000 cyclists are expected to be joining in the event on the actual day.
The Gros Michel banana is the number one export produce in the province, as so the cooperative office has gathered 9,999 bananas to give out to the cyclists, along with water at the 14km-mark rest area at Surat Thani train station.
Meanwhile, the Ang Thong Provincial Administrative Organisation is hurriedly using its drinking water truck to produce around 20,000 small bottles of water, in order to hand them out to cyclists participating in the coming BFD 2015 bicycling event.
A total of 4,262 people have registered to participate in the coming cycling event, where the cyclists would be riding their bikes for a distance of 29 kilometres, starting from the province's City Hall and ending back at the starting point. (TNA)
