BANGKOK, January 24 (TNA) - A latest survey conducted by Bangkok University has shown that most eligible voters intended to cast their votes if the new general election would be unchanged from its scheduled February 2, 2014.
The Bangkok Poll, released on Friday, found that 79.6 per cent of a total of 1,018 respondents nationwide would cast their votes if there was the general election on February 2 as scheduled; while the rest 9.9 per cent would not exercise their right and 10.5 per cent remained undecided.
The survey also found that 52.6 per cent of the respondents considered domestic political problems would affect their voting and 34.3 per cent of them had not yet decided whether they would, thus, turn out for voting and 18.3 per cent said they would not go to vote.
The rest 47.4 per cent of the respondents did not see ongoing domestic political problems would have any impact on their voting and 23.4 per cent of them were determined to cast their votes anyway and 24 per cent stressed they were duty-bound to exercise their voting right.
The survey also found that 49.3 per cent of the respondents had not seen any vote campaign of election candidates except their campaign posters, 29.7 per cent had seen inactive campaigns and 4.9 per cent had seen active campaigns.
Asked for comments on the February 2 general election, 51.5 per cent of the surveyed people wanted voting on that date, 28.1 per cent demanded the general election after a domestic political reform and 20.4 per cent called for the postponement of the general election.
Asked whether the Thai military should stage a coup to restore order, 56 per cent of the respondents disagreed with a coup, 21.6 per cent agreed and 22.4 per cent were undecided. (TNA)
