Taiwanese call center gang sentenced to jail

BANKGOK, August 27 (TNA) - Thailand's Criminal Court sentenced each member of a Taiwanese call center gang to three years in jail on Monday, after they were found guilty of making phone calls from two office houses to lure victims into transferring money to their bank accounts. The sentence went to nine Taiwanese women and 13 Taiwanese men, including their male leader Shin Pao-Sheng. Officers of Thailand's Department of Special Investigation (DSI) raided and arrested the Taiwanese people at their two house offices in Bangkok's Lat Phrao area and in Muang Thong 3 Housing Estate in the capital's suburban Nonthaburi province on March 28, 2012. The Criminal Court found them guilty based on evidence presented by the DSI, but the Thai court commuted their jail term from three years to one year and six months each due to their confessions.
