Taiwanese gang apprehended in Thailand for call center scam

BANGKOK, May 4 (TNA) - Thai authorities have arrested 13 Taiwanese nationals for a call centre scam deceiving people in mainland China. The Thai immigration police searched a house in Bangkok’s Lak Si area on Thursday, after receiving tip-offs on the fraudulent operations, and apprehended the 13-member Taiwanese gang and the house's owners. During the search, the Thai authorities also seized six personal computers, 17 telephones, three mobile phones and internet modems and found telephone conversation guidelines for luring victims. According to Thai police, the Taiwanese gang had used the house for the scam for two months, causing a total loss of some 31 million baht to victims. The Taiwanese suspects have been detained in Thai police's custody and charged with the scam and illegal entry. (TNA)
