TAT projects about 20 billion baht spending during Songkran

BANGKOK, March 30 (TNA) – Tourism Authority of Thailand Intelligence Center projects about 20 billion baht will be circulated during the Songkran festival this year, owing to the government’s support to promote tourism in 55 secondary provinces. The TAT’s research center expects traveling during the Thai New Year between April 12-16 will generate income of about 19.8 billion baht, up 18 per cent year-on-year. Tourist arrivals during the period are expected to reach 530,000 people, earning the country’s income of about 9.3 billion baht, up 21 per cent year-on-year. Meanwhile, domestic tourism is projected to grow both in income and in number with about three million travellers, an increase of 12 per cent. It will create income of about 10 billion baht, up 15 per cent. The growth in domestic tourism is supported by the government’s stimulus measures such as tax incentives, extension of holiday period as well as increased domestic flights to meet high demand during Songkran, and TAT’s campaign to introduce more destinations in secondary provinces.
