TAT promotes tourism in 55 secondary provinces

BANGKOK, March 23 (TNA) -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) on Thursday signed a memorandum of cooperation with Toyota Motor Thailand to promote tourism in 55 provinces that are secondary tourist destinations to meet the government’s policy to boost the grass roots economy. Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak Kowsurat said the “Amazing Thailand Go Local” campaign under the cooperation project would happen in the forms of activities done with Hilux Revo Rocco pickup trucks to introduce local tourist destinations and help local residents increase income. Tourism could be used as a tool to empower communities and reduce inequality and the project was an example of public-private collaboration to boost the economy, he said. TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn said tourism marketing campaigns would happen in the 55 provinces and target the growing number of tourists who liked to drive their own vehicles on vacations. In May the campaign will promote five domestic tour routes to five regions, he said. Besides, Toyota will shoot its TV commercial at the Three Whales Rock in the Phu Sing forest of Bung Kan province to help promote tourism in the secondary tourist destination, Mr Yuthasak said.
