Technical Glitch Forces Malaysia Airlines Flight Back To KLIA

KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines flight MH2 which left the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for London Monday night had to return to KLIA following a technical glitch in one of its engines while airborne. The carrier said that in the interest of passenger safety, the flight captain decided to return to KLIA and the Boeing 747-400 plane landed at 2.05am Tuesday morning. The aircraft had 351 passengers and 21 crew members onboard. "The aircraft was grounded upon arrival. A replacement aircraft was arranged with a fresh set of crew to continue the flight to London," Malaysia Airlines said in a statement on Tuesday. The national carrier said it provided full board hotel accommodation for the affected passengers. The newly-arranged flight departed KLIA for the British capital at 10.34am, Tuesday. -- BERNAMA
