Terror bombing convicts issued various sentences

Manama, Mar. 23 (BNA): The High Criminal Court today convicted and issued its sentences against 17 defendants who committed terror bombings in Al-Qurrayah area. Three of the convicts were issued death sentences, four received a life in jail, eight were given 15 years in jail, two were handed a 10 years in jail sentence, and the court also ordered the confiscation of all materials seized from their possession. The defendants had formed and joined a dangerous terror cell which manufactured explosive devices, homemade firearms and used them against policemen in acts of terrorism in the Northern Governorate and used these weapons to inflict heaviest casualties among the public security forces and material damage to cause panic and spread chaos among citizens and residents. The defendants sought to prevent the security men's performance of their duty in protecting the community and maintaining public security and civic peace. The third suspect commanded the terror gang and received support from the first and the second suspects who happen to exist outside the Kingdom. The defendants detonated the terror bombings in Al-Qurraayah area injuring public security men. A number of suspects were arrested and the third defendant revealed the location where they stored the homemade explosives, weapons and the tools they used in the terror attacks. Homemade firearms were found in the house of the fourteenth defendant. The thirteenth defendant also revealed the explosives storage location. The fifteenth defendant revealed a Kalashnikov and an ammunition-holding magazine. Material evidences, witnesses' testimonies and technical evidences, including forensic reports were attached and the Public Prosecution referred the case to the High Criminal Court which heard the case in its sessions in the presence of defence lawyers who were allowed to present their defence arguments and the defendants were given all legal sureties before the court issued its above sentences.
