Test of new ammunition
Almaty, December 10, 2009 (Khabar) - The firing ground of the military institution of land troops, which is situated near Almaty, has witnessed the beginning of ballistic testing of ammunition made in Kazakhstan. The crew of the BMP-2 is using a powerful automatic cannon, which was produced by the machinery plant in Uralsk. Military soldiers are checking the quality of firing.
Gennadiy Nosanovskiy, deputy chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee of Armed Forces of RK:
- From today, we are not going to import ammunition from abroad but purchase it from local producers. We will invest money in our factories and create new jobs.
Armoured personnel carriers, the BMP-2 as well as the T-72 tank are the basis of Kazakhstan’s land troops. As a rule, the military is using a lot of ammunition during training. Moreover, they need to renovate it, since warehouses are still full of the ammunition produced during the Soviet Union. That is why they started the production of ammunition for infantry combat vehicles.
Alibek Akhmetzhanov, director general, “West Kazakhstan Machine-Building Company”:
- For us, ammunition is about mastering new technologies. In reality, we should have a group of specialists, who graduated from special universities and who understand what ammunition is and how war equipment works.
General Nosanovskiy said that the defence ministry is planning to establish the production of rifle-bore ammunition as well as basic weapons at the Uralsk plant. Moreover, the plant is to start tests on special 30-millimeter armour-piercing shells for the BMP-2.
