Thai authorities step up security measures at all terminals
BANGKOK, Feb 17 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Transport has heightened its security measures at all terminals, in the wake of a series of bomb blasts on Sukhumvit 71 Road in Bangkok on February 14, injuring five people, and the issuance of arrest warrants for four Iranian suspects.
Transport Minister Jarupong Ruangsuwan affirmed on Thursday that tight security measures have now been in effect at all airports, electric train terminals and railway stations, noting that Airports of Thailand Public Co., Ltd. (AOT) has particularly raised its security operations from Level 2, a normal level, to Level 3, one notch lower than its maximum level 4 security preparations, and has deployed more security guards and checkpoints.
According to the state-run AOT, the higher level of security has been imposed at six Thai airports, namely Suvarnabhumi, Don Muang, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai Hat Yai and Phuket Airports; while security guards are carefully checking passengers at all airports, especially Thailand's main Suvarnabhumi International Airport.(TNA)
