Thai Cabinet approves sanction on North Korea

BANGKOK, January 31 (TNA) - The Thai Cabinet has approved an additional sanction on North Korea in compliance with a recent resolution of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), as proposed by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Assistant Government Spokesman Colonel Athisit Chaiyanuwat told journalists of the decision after the Thai Cabinet's weekly meeting at Bangkok's Government House on January 30. The assistant spokesman said that Tuesday's move was Thailand's observation of the UNSC's 11th resolution on sanction against Pyongyang's nuclear programs since 2006. According to the assistant spokesman, the UNSC imposed the sanction on North Korea last month, following Pyongyang's announcement of its successful tests of a nitrogen bomb and a ballistic missile in November. "Last month's UNSC resolution against Pyongyang expanded to the seizure of North Korean ships anchored at any port of member countries, in addition to the ban on supply, sale or transfer of all refined petroleum products to North Korea", the assistant spokesman stated.
