Thai-Cambodian military relations remain sound
BANGKOK, November 13 (TNA) - The Ministry of Defence says that military relations between Thailand and neighbouring Cambodia remain sound, with even expanding cooperation and communications, following the latest ruling by The Hague-based International Court of Justice on November 11, 2013 over a territorial case-related to the Preah Vihear Temple along the common border.
Defence Ministry Spokesman Colonel Thanathip Sawangsaeng told journalists on Wednesday that there has been no rotation or reinforcement of Thai troops stationed along the Thai-Cambodian border so far after the ICJ's verdict earlier this week.
The spokesman affirmed that relations between Thai and Cambodian border soldiers remain positive, as legal experts are looking into the World Court's ruling in details.
According to the spokesman his ministry will hand out written copies of the World Court's verdict, officially translated into Thai by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to the Thai border troops to create their proper understanding on the case.
The spokesman acknowledged that Thai members of the Thai-Cambodia Joint Commission (JC) and legal experts will hold talks first, based on Thai laws, before holding discussions with the Cambodia side.
The spokesman noted that both the Thai and Cambodian governments should have sufficient information in hands for talks, and that both countries' stance is to solve border issues through peaceful means. (TNA)
