Thai customs officials seize luxury cars smuggled from Malaysia
SONGKHLA, September 13 (TNA) - Customs officials in Thailand's southern border region have arrested two Malaysians and confiscated two luxury cars, worth over 30 million baht, which have been smuggled from neighbouring Malaysia.
The officials from Thailand's customs office, region 4, announced the case at a press conference on Thursday, saying that the two Malaysians were stopped when driving the two luxury cars through the Sadao border checkpoint in Songkhla Province.
According to the officials, the models of the seized cars are Lamborghini's Gallardo LP 550 and Nissan's GT-R CBA-R35, with foreign license plates.
The Thai officials said that the two Malaysian drivers, identified as Pern Kok Heng and Chew Eng Tian, were charged with forging documents for smuggling of cars into Thailand, but both have denied the charge, claiming they were traveling to Phuket for a holiday.
The local customs officials acknowledged that smugglers of vehicles were found to have now tried to deliver luxury cars to their clients in Bangkok by land, after their smuggling activities through sea cargo shipments have been blocked due to strict inspections by Thai customs authorities. (TNA)
