Thai government to help people in vulnerable groups

BANGKOK, February 23 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra says that her government will put efforts in narrowing social disparity by building facilities for children, women, the elderly and persons with disabilities (PWDs). Yingluck announced during her TV and radio programme on Saturday that her government will start the policy at the Government House and government agencies will then amend certain regulations so that part of their budgets will be allocated in building facilities for the elderly and the PWDs. Stressing that her administration does not want to see the elderly and the PWDs as posing burden to the society, Yingluck noted that they could also become power of the nation. According to the Thai prime minister, tourist destinations will be improved to facilitate the elderly and the PWDs; while public agencies will cooperate with foundations and organisations concerned in setting up a “one-stop services" for children who are parentless so that the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security could offer help on schooling and occupation training for them to protect them from being harassed.
