Thai government to reduce violence against women and children

BANGKOK, September 5 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has insisted on her government's policies on reducing violence against women and children. Yingluck suggested that traditional attitudes be changed to create equality for women and children to reduce domestic violence. Yingluck acknowledged that domestic violence happens everywhere around the world and although Thailand has had laws against the issue for five years, they have not yet been concretely implemented due to different attitudes of local people, and that such the problem should be prevented by eliminating its root, which is the change of attitudes to create the equality of women and children in the Thai society so that they will no longer become victims of domestic violence. According to the Thai premier, her government is ready to work with Thailand's Office of the Attorney General, through relevant mechanisms of the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, as well as her administration's newly-set up woman development fund, to achieve the goal.(TNA)
