Thai King, Queen in good health

BANGKOK, August 9 (TNA) - A royal doctor says that His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit are both in very good health, one week after Their Majesties the King and Queen left Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital for recuperation at the Klai Kangwon Palace in seaside Hua Hin area of Prachuap Kiri Khan province in the Upper Thai South. Clinical Prof. Dr. Udom Kachinthorn, who is also the Dean of Siriraj Hospital's Faculty of Medicine, acknowledged on Friday that Their Majesties the King and Queen have been in very good health conditions at the seaside Klai Kangwon Palace, where there are also a lot of trees and fresh air, making the Klai Kangwon Palace a perfect place for Their Majesties' transition from the hospital. According to the senior physician, a team of doctors and nurses with medical equipment has been available for Their Majesties the King and Queen and has closely coordinated with nearby Hua Hin Hospital in case of any emergency. As Her Majesty the Queen's birthday on August 12 is approaching, various events and activities have been organised as part of nationwide grand celebrations for Her Majesty's 81st birthday anniversary. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has invited people from all walks of life for a mass alms-giving to 182 Buddhist monks at the City Hall in Bangkok on August 12, which has also been designated as the National Mothers' Day, to pay tribute to Her Majesty the Queen and to do merits for their mothers. The Bangkok City Authority will also organise a special train tour to nine temples in the capital next Monday to facilitate people who want to do their merit-makings at the temples on the occasion of the National Mothers' Day. Focal areas of Bangkok have also been illuminated with colorful lights and other adornments to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen's birthday anniversary. Meanwhile, Bangkok-based University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce's Centre for Economic and Business Forecasting projected that National Mothers' Day 2013 spending, throughout Thailand, should total 18.1 billion baht, a 4.6 per cent increase from last year though the slowest growth in five years. The centre's recent survey found that most respondents wanted to spend on upcountry trips with their mothers, standing most at nearly 8 billion baht totally, followed by on spa and massage services and other gifts for their mothers, namely special meals, money and gold ornaments.
