Thai MFA nullifies visa labels lost during delivery to The Hague

BANGKOK, August 26 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has nullified 2,000 visa labels lost during their recent delivery to The Hague, the Netherlands. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul told journalists of the update on Monday, quoting the permanent secretary for foreign affairs as reporting, that the Thai visa labels were lost during their delivery by mail. Surapong said there appears to be an organized movement behind the theft, but there has been no evidence that any official of his ministry was involved. The deputy prime minister vowed if any official was found to have involved in the theft, they would definitely face legal action. The deputy premier acknowledged that he has ordered relevant officials to take precautions on visa label deliveries and he has discussed with the director-general of his ministry's Department of Consular Affairs on a new form of Thailand's visa issuance to prevent any repeated loss or forgery. The deputy prime minister revealed that the new form of Thailand's visa labels may be printed by computers at their destinations and bear the photographs of visa applicants. (TNA)
