Thai National Among The Dead In Seoul Halloween Stampede

By Linda Khoo BANGKOK, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- A Thai national was among the 153 people killed in the deadly Halloween stampede in Seoul’s Itaewon district on Saturday. Thailand’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Tanee Sangrat said the 27-year-old female student went to South Korea two months ago to learn Korean. “The Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul has informed her family members. The embassy will assist the family in repatriating the body,” he said in a statement. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan o-cha said he is saddened by Seoul’s stampede tragedy. He ordered the relevant authorities to help the Thais who were affected. Media reported that at least 153 people, including 22 foreigners, were killed, and some 82 people were injured in the tragedy. International media reported that almost all of the victims have been identified, with delays affecting several foreign nationals whose nationalities have yet to be verified. -- BERNAMA
