Thai North on high alert against dengue fever outbreaks

CHIANG RAI, August 28 (TNA) - Public health officials in Thailand’s northernmost Chiang Rai Province have been on high alert to eliminate mosquitoes to prevent and contain outbreaks of dengue fever among locals, as the number of dengue fever patients in the province have reached 550 so far this year. Dengue fever has spread in Chiang Rai following heavy downpours, with some 170 confirmed patients this month alone, although there have been no reports of any death toll so far. Chiang Rai's public health chief Dr. Chamnan Hansuthivejjakul has ordered public health offices across the province to keep spraying to get rid of dengue fever-carrier mosquitoes more frequently, from three times to four times a week, particularly in areas at risk along the border, including Mae Sai, Chiang Saen, Chiang Khong and Terng Districts.
