Thai PM attends 2012 Nuclear Summit in Seoul

SEOUL, March 27 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra joined leaders of more than other 50 nations and four international organizations in attending the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit here Tuesday aimed to achieve more specific actions to prevent nuclear terrorism and to ensure atomic safety globally. Yingluck is expected to suggest the establishment of a nuclear monitoring network in Southeast Asia and a centre of excellence to investigate nuclear traces in order to enhance the regional capability against nuclear arms traffickings and related scientific investigations. Yingluck was scheduled to attend a plenary session to discuss the topic of “National Measures and International Cooperation to Enhance Nuclear Security”, followed by a working lunch among the participating leaders. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the United Nations were scheduled to later lead a discussion on “Synergy between Nuclear Security and Nuclear Security.” The world leaders agreed at their previous summit that nuclear terrorism is a top global security challenge, and that strong nuclear material security measures are the most effective way to prevent it. The Seoul Communique will be released at the end of the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit, the second of its kind in the world. The Netherlands will host the Third Nuclear Security Summit in 2014. Afterward, the Thai prime minister will join a dinner reception hosted by South Korean President Lee-Myung-bak and the South Korean First Lady in honour of the world leaders participating in the 2012 Nuclear Summit in Seoul.
