Thai PM Hopes Political Conflict Will Be Reduced After Polls

BANGKOK, Feb 2 (TNA) – Thailand’s caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Sunday thanked Thai people for supporting the general election, which, she said, is a democratic rule that can reduce the political conflict. Speaking to journalists after voting ended in the country’s polls at 3 p.m. local time, Miss Yingluck said she believed that all sectors would support resolving the country’s problems step by step through peaceful means. Despite some disruption in some areas, Sunday’s election was satisfactory as there was no violence, she said. According the caretaker premier, the next step is the duty of the Election Commission to carry out the task to complete the by-election for the rest of voters who could not cast their votes. The Center for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO) is ready to support the EC to hold by-election in some constituencies upon requested, she added. Speaking to foreign press, Miss Yingluck said that the election is important for Thai people to exercise their right under the democracy amid the ongoing conflict. Listening to the voice of people through the election is a peaceful means to resolve the problem. Although, the number of Members of Parliament cannot be counted, she said that it is a good sign that people want the election. (TNA)
