Thai PM leaves for 20th ASEAN Summit
BANGKOK, April 2 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is scheduled to leave for Cambodia Monday evening to attend the 20th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and related forums, set to be held in Phnom Penh from March 30-April 4.
Yingluck told journalists that she would propose to other ASEAN government leaders for joint cooperation in solving narcotics and haze problems, making it become the first time that Thailand raises drug problems to an ASEAN platform with a joint committee expected to be set up if every ASEAN member country agrees to solve the crux.
Yingluck said that ASEAN government leaders would also listen to opinions raised by representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Organisation and other agencies, aimed to further strengthen the 10-nation ASEAN bloc.
The Thai prime minister is also scheduled to attend the 6th Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT), at which she will inform government leaders of the two neighbouring countries on progress of cooperation between the three nations, including construction of border bridges and alternative energy, and of cooperation with other important trading countries besides Japan.
