Thai PM proposes ASEAN be drug-free region by 2015

BANGKOK, June 26 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has announced her government's policies on anti-narcotics, concrete protection of community dwellers from drug addiction and support the Association of Southeast Asian nations (ASEAN) to become a world drug-free region by 2015. Yingluck said on Wednesday that her government has included the drug issue in the national agenda, urging all parties in the Thai society to then join forces to solve drug-related problems seriously and steadily. The Thai prime minister pointed out that strict law enforcements have resulted in narcotic control and the alleviation of the drug-related problems at a certain extent. According to the Thai prime minister, her government has, this year, focused on the prevention of drug addiction, the protection of risky areas and groups, the prevention of repeated addiction and the protection of communities. The Thai premier acknowledged that her administration will encourage neighboring countries, including China, Japan and South Korea, to integrate intelligence to suppress narcotics, especially drug smuggling at airports.
