Thai PM to visit Myanmar in September
BANGKOK, August 26 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will officially visit Myanmar next month, where she will meet with President U Thein Sein for cooperation talks.
Her visit to Myanmar from September 19-21 follows a set of agreements reached between Thailand and Myanmar back in July this year.
They include one on the comprehensive development of Myanmar’s Tavoy Special Economic Zone together with Thailand’s Laem Chabang deep seaport, one on development cooperation in Myanmar, as well as on the establishment of a joint Energy Forum.
Meanwhile, in other updates, Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul on Sunday reported on his portfolio after the Thai government completed its first year term in office.
The minister said although the disputed issues near Preah Vihear temple remain unsettled, pending the World Court’s verdict, the most urgent policy for the government is to speed on improving relations with neighbouring countries. This includes strengthening cooperation with fellow ASEAN members before the start of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015. (TNA)
