Thai PM visits South Korean flood prevention centre
SEOUL, March 25 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Sunday visited the Han River Flood Control Centre in Seoul while South Korea has pledged to cooperate with Thailand in solving flood problem which had devastated the kingdom severely late last year.
Yingluck was briefed by South Korean Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs Minister Kwon Do-youp during the visit to Han River Flood Control Centre’s River Information Centre on South Korea’s water management system which could warn people on any flooding situation up to seven hours earlier.
The Centre also exchanges information and innovative technology with international organizations while it is willing to cooperate with concerned Thai agencies on flood disaster which has become a natural phenomenon in the past years due to global warming.
Yingluck was interested and enquired about water management and flood warning from Minister Kwon during the visit.
South Korea was hit by flood several times until the government built four flood control centres in 1974. These centres work closely with a state-enterprise firm in overseeing the entire water management system in the country.
Yingluck arrived in Seoul on Saturday to pay a four-day official visit and to also attend the Nuclear Security Summit which will be held this Monday and Tuesday. (TNA)
