Thai PM vows to go ahead with corruption suppression

BANGKOK, June 17 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha assures that his government has seriously and systematically fought against corruption, promising to treat the accused fairly. Prime Minister General Prayut, who is also Chief of the army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), made the remarks while delivering a speech at the Third Conference on Evidence-Based Anti-Corruption Policies in Bangkok on Wednesday. The prime minister acknowledged that his government has included the anti-graft policy on the national agenda and is wooing support from all parties to seriously suppress corruption, suggesting, once successful, it would sustain national peace and order with dwarfed law enforcement. The prime minister stressed that anti-corruption missions are to be conducted simultaneously with national reform, along with further economic development and the creation of bureaucratic transparency and fair promotion in the government sector. On the occasion, the prime minister also said he neither plans to prolong his power nor wants to see violence, insisting that his interim administration has followed national reform roadmap. According to the prime minister, when the next general election will happen, however, depends on people, while the new Constitution is to be acceptable to the public. (TNA)
