Thai PM:There will be sufficient power supply during April 5-14

BANGKOK, April 4 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has affirmed that there will be sufficient energy in Thailand during April 5-14, when neighbouring Myanmar will suspend its gas supply to Thailand for maintenance of its gas wells, urging, however, that people keep conserving energy in order to reduce the country's fuel imports and to sustain national energy security. Yingluck on Thursday afternoon presided over a ceremony to kick start an official campaign on encouraging people nationwide to help tackle, probably, an energy crisis during the April 5-14 period, when high power demand is foreseen, particularly on April 5, as domestic electricity consumption is expected to hit a peak of 27,000 megawatts from 2-3pm. According to the prime minister, the Thai Ministry of Energy has prepared measures to cope with any, probably, energy crisis during the period, including seeking cooperation from all sectors countrywide to help reduce their power consumption by at least 700 megawatts as targeted. The prime minister suggested that people nationwide also conserve their power consumption on a continual basis to help cut the country's fuel imports, and that they wear clothes suitable for seasonal weather conditions. The prime minister said that she has also assigned the Ministry of Energy to promote more use of alternative energy in the country. (TNA)
