Thai private sector demands immediate national reform

BANGKOK, December 23 (TNA) - Seven major organizations of the Thai private sector say that immediate national reform is necessary, covering systems which govern the acquisition of national administrative power to be acceptable to all parties. Announcing the statement of the seven private organizations, Isara Vongkusolkit, Chairman of the Board of Trade of Thailand, told journalists on Monday that a national reform forum recently held by the organizations came to a conclusion that immediate national reform was essential. Explaining the reform process, Isara noted that an independent organization to work out the national reform would be set up before the new general election with the consent of political parties and other concerned parties and supportive legislation, possibly an executive decree. According to the Board of Trade chair, the reform will include systems for the acquisition of national administrative power that all parties accept, namely an election system free of vote-buying and influences, transparency in the selection of members of independent organizations and the examination of the use of government authority by people's representatives, independent organizations and political institutions, covering the appointments and transfers of government officials and anti-graft actions in the government, the private and other sectors in Thailand. The Board of Trade chair elaborated that the reform will also lead to a fair allocation of and access to resources, the reduction of inequality and the sustainable enhancement of people's productivity. Under the reform, projects which will affect people, the Thai economy and fiscal disciplines must be considered carefully and based on the national interest. Besides, the reform will guarantee justice for people. The Board of Trade chair persuaded all parties concerned to support the proposed reform and to take careful consideration to solve national problems.(TNA)
