Thai security authorities seriously discuss bombings in Bangkok

BANGKOK, February 15 (TNA) - Thailand’s National Security Council (NSC) seriously discussed Wednesday three bombings which happened in inner Bangkok on Tuesday, initially assuming that the blasts were meant for individual attacks, rather than feared terror threats. After the one-hour meeting, NSC Secretary-General Police General Wichean Potephosree told reporters of the initial assumption, reasoning that the explosions did not have any widespread impact. The NSC chief said that he does not think the bombings had anything to do with those in Georgia and India recently, but authorities concerned are checking whether the blasts on the Saint Valentine's Day were related to a Lebanese terrorist suspect Atris Hussein, who was earlier arrested and has been detained in Thailand. Deputy National Police Chief Police General Pansiri Praphawat, meanwhile, acknowledged that another suspect of yesterday's blasts has fled Thailand and Thai police are seeking an arrest warrant against him and are checking whether the latest bombs in the Thai capital had any connection with recent bombings in India, and that the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs was set to discuss the incident with foreign ambassadors today. Associated Professor Dr. Prasert Triwijitsilp, Deputy Director of Bangkok-based Chulalongkorn Hospital, told a press conference that the Iranian bomber has been saved, but he has remained unconscious and depended on a respirator in a heavily secured intensive care unit at the government-run hospital, noting that operations to rescue the man took 10 hours due to his multiple wounds, and that four other injured people were treated at adjacent Kluaynamthai Hospital and two of them were already discharged.
