Thai workers overseas warned to stay away from narcotics

BANGKOK, March 14 (TNA) - The Department of Employment, under the Ministry of Labour, has warned Thai workers overseas not to abuse drugs. The warning, issued on March 14, responds to reportedly-rising narcotic addictions among Thai workers abroad, which may affect the national image. Department of Employment Director-General Arrug Phrommanee told journalists on Monday labour officials at the Thai Embassy in Seoul has reported that the district court of South Korea's Uijeongbu City sentenced a Thai worker to three years in jail and a fine of 14 million won or about 400,000 baht on January 20, 2016 for abusing and trafficking narcotics and an appeal is pending. Arrug warned Thai nationals who are staying or plan to work in foreign countries not to abuse or smuggle drugs; otherwise, they would face heavy punishments in those countries, lose their freedom, ruin their future and tarnish the image of Thailand and Thai labour.
